A youth died and one of his friends went missing while taking bath at Cox’s bazaar beach today.

Police said the incident happened at a place between Laboni and Sugandha points around 2:30 pm.

The deceased identified as Yasir Khan, 25, was a resident of Aftabnagar in Dhaka while missing youth Mohammad Ibrahim, 23, is also from the same area.

Tourist Police official Azmal Hossain said police were working to confirm their full identities.

Quoting lifeguards, Azmal said a group of five youths from Aftabnagar came at Cox’s Bazaar on a vacation.

They went to the sea ignoring the red warning flags and were soon caught in a strong tide and all of them found themselves in danger.

Three of them managed to reach the shore but Yasir and Ibrahim couldn’t.

As three survivors informed the matter to lifeguards, the rescue personnel quickly rushed to the spot. They rescued Yasir in critical condition and taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors later declared him dead.

Despite extensive search, the rescuers could not locate Ibrahim. Members of the Fire Service and Sea Safe Lifeguard team are continuing search, police said.

Azmal said police have already spoken with their families, who are on their way to Cox’s Bazar, reports BSS.
