A bus driver was killed and at least 25 passengers were injured  as a bus fell into a roadside ditch after collision  with another bus on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj on Wednesday morning.

A Dhaka-bound bus of Unique Paribahan from Sylhet collided head-on with a Sylhet-bound bus of Lucky Paribahan  and fell into a ditch at Dubai Baza around 8am, leaving the driver of the Unique Paribahan bus dead on the spot, said  Officer-in-Charge of Shayestaganj Highway Police Station Shubho Ranjan Chakma.

Locals, along with members of the Fire Service and police, rescued the injured and took them to Habiganj District Sadar Hospital and other nearby hospitals.

The accident disrupted traffic on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway for nearly an hour.

Later, members of Shayestaganj Highway Police and Bahubal Fire Service recovered the body of the driver from the wreckage.

Traffic resumed after the damaged buses were removed from the highway, reports UNB.

The identity of the deceased driver could not be confirmed immediately and efforts are underway to identify him, the OC added.
