Two killed in pickup-motorcycle collision in Noakhali

Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a motorcycle on the Kabirhat-Sonapur road in Kabirhat upazila of the district.


The accident occurred at around 8:30 pm today near Baripukur Par in Sundalpur area of the upazila.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Locals detained pickup driver Mahiuddin Mahmud and his assistant Salauddin and handed them over to the police following the incident.

Police and witnesses said a head-on collision took place between a mini truck and a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction in the Baripukur Par area of the Kabirhat-Sonapur road.

The motorcycle was severely damaged and both the rider and the pillion rider died on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge of Kabirhat Police Station Md. Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the deaths and said police rushed to the spot after receiving the information and recovered the bodies.

Efforts are underway to identify the deceased and legal procedures are in progress, reports BSS.

The bodies are being prepared to be sent to the morgue of the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy.
